The Moniteau Creek River Raiders Newsletter June 2010
Doolin's Doodlin's What a GREAT SPRING we have had so far. Already we've had more shoots than we did in 2008. March, April, May, and now pending June. Neither rain, nor sleet, nor muddy (no offense to the cowboy formerly known as Big Muddy) range kept us from our appointed rounds. Our Mother's Day shoot was a big success, lots of Mom's attended and we were better for it. June is shaping up to be a terrific match. For those wanting to shoot your 22's we'll have five regular stages and the sixth stage will be a .22 only stage, with two pistols and one rifle. .22 LR ammo will be required, approx. 25 rounds only. Get the Grandkid's legacy out of the back of the safe and bring em' to the range. For those who don't have .22s we'll have some at the range for you to use, just bring some ammo. Remember Sunday June 13th, five regular Cowboy stages, one .22 stage, if you don't have 22 firearms, they'll be there for you, but please bring a box of ammo. You may have noticed the black coal looking stuff on our lane, well it is black coal stuff, and should help our road hold up. I think we won't use it on the parking lot due to the dust, but on the road, it should be a cost effective way to keep the base holding up. It's an experiment in being cost effective. We may miss our lovely and talented Priarie Dawn this month as she has other duties, but the Colonel, Bounty Hunter, and I will attempt to muddle through. The Southfork Regulators will be in Hannibal Missouri this Memorial Day Weekend performing twice daily on Saturday and Sunday; come on out and see the world famous Lucky Lightfoot and Bisley Packer dazzle the crowds with their new high flying trapeze act straight from the crown heads of Europe. And last but not least, big thanks to the man behind the curtain, Charles Turner, AKA Sterling Price for his great work on our web site. We really do appreciate his efforts. One last item this month, is to remember the Owl Creek Shooters have their cowboy match on the Fourth Sunday of the month. I've included directions below. The club can be reached by traveling State Road J, 4 miles south of Millersburg, then turning on County Road 324 about ½ mile and the club is on the right hand side just past the new concrete bridge (map) There are approximately 40 members in the club at present.
That's all for now, look forward to seeing everyone at the Shoot in June. Good Bye; Good Luck; and may the Good LORD take a likin' to you. June Newsletter II Whew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would complain about the heat, but we had 25 brave souls who showed up and did not, and it would be improper to complain about the heat when we have young men and women enduring temperatures of 120-130 in foreign lands fighting for our ability to play cowboy. A few old and familiar faces showed up that haven't been here for a while, Black Angus brought two new shooters down from the Wentzville area; Miss Nita Fortune and Giver me a Minute shot their first cowboy match and did very well, using borrowed guns. Missouri Bounty Hunter, your President of Vice and Marshal Lead came back, that is 200% more shooting with us this year than last. Teton Scotty, West Longer, Hannibal Hank, and Red Burns rounded out some new and newer faces at our shoot. Glad to have each and everyone of them. Last great news was that the Callaway Kid was seen at the reins driving the stage into town. Under the watchful eye of his armed guard of course. It was raining all around us, but the good LORD brought us sunshine and clear skies for about six hours of shooting. We appreciate it greatly. Come see us in July on the 11th. Registration opens by 9:00 AM with the shooters' meeting at 9:30 and shooting to follow soon thereafter. Three steely-eyed shooters shot the match clean -- Jim Cummins, Shortgrub and Nickel Bill. This makes two months in a row of clean shooting for Nickel Bill. Jim Cummins has a clean streak longer than I can recall. He should change his category to Super Senior! Good shooting! Doolin
